FISTULA/CANCER SCREENING EXERCISE KICKS OFF IN NAITIRI

Office of the First Lady in partnership with the department of Health, AMPATH and AMREF was in Naitiri SubCounty hospital to kick start the Fistula/ Cancer Screening exercise set to run until the 21st of August, 2019.
Led by H.E. Mrs. Caroline Wangamati, the team was ably supported by Daktari Mashinani and Birth companions who played a big role in mobilising locals to the camp.
Speaking at the camp, Mrs Wangamati noted the exercise to be a success thanks to the numbers that showed up. “I am glad that today we received a lot of our mothers who came out to understand their cancer status.” she said. She also noted that several suspicios cases breast and cervical cancer were noted and AMPATH was managing the process of confirmation for those patients. Four patients were confirmed to undergo the obstetrics Fistula repair camp set for 24th – 30th of August at Webuye hospital.

The screening revealed suspicious cervical and breast cancer symptoms in some of those screened which was the essence of this exercise. AMPATH will help us navigate such patients through the confirmation process .We also confirmed four patients who will need surgical repair during our upcoming Obstetrics Fistula repair camp set for 24th -30th August.” Mrs. Wangamati said.

The team moves to Cheptais – Mt. Elgon Sub County on Tuesday, Kapsokwony on Wednesday, Kospiro on Thursday and Sirisia on Friday.

The screening exercise will be summed up in Bumula SubCounty Hospital on 21st and 22nd August during the Integrated Primary Health Care Camp.

Previous CEC for Agriculture chaired a meeting in Kisumu for NARIGP(National Agriculture and Rural inclusive Growth project.
